Reduce Heat Stress with Fans

July 9, 2018 No Comments

An effective method of cooling workers is to use a fan to increase air movement on, and around, the worker.  Fans increase the evaporative cooling effect on workers’ skin, and they help to remove the heat produced by production processes and machinery.

Some employers allow employees to bring in their own little, consumer type fans from home.  These fans are usually not electrically grounded; but most companies will none-the-less allow them as long as the fan is UL approved (see fans’ label).

Other employers have had success mounting giant fans from the ceiling (see above photo).   These overhead fans both help to cool the workers; and they will also help to reduce condensation on the floor when the dew point is high (which prevents slip and fall accidents, and fork trucks from sliding).
