I am sometimes asked by young safety students and unemployed safety professionals  “What can I do to increase my chances of finding a good safety job?”  My response is “Learn Spanish!”

More and more manufacturing companies and construction companies are hiring Hispanic workers.  For many, their entire workforce speaks only Spanish.

Being fluent in Spanish will enable you to communicate with and train HIspanic employees without the aid of an expensive interpreter.

With the USA’s open border with Mexico, the number of Spanish-speaking workers will likely increase even more in the future.

For some jobs, speaking Spanish is mandatory.  Many “Help Wanted Ads” require applicants to be fluent in Spanish.  Some times I have had to turn down consulting opportunities because I could not speak Spanish.
