“Show Them You Care”

Developing and maintaining a good working relationship with employees is an important part of every safety manager’s job.

Employees don’t want to hear you talking about “reducing accident rates”, or worse yet “controlling accident costs”.  Such discussions will make them think that you only care about statistics and money, and not about their personal health and safety.

Instead, talk to employees about sending them home every day in the same shape that they came to work in.  If any employee was recently injured in an on-the-job accident ask them how they are feeling, how the insurance carrier treated them, and if their medical bills were promptly paid.

Show employees that you care about them and you’ll make a friend and supporter for life.
