Below is our “Safety App of the Week”.  These weekly features are published every Monday.  New apps are tested on Apple iPads and rated from ♥ to ♥♥♥♥♥ (♥♥♥♥♥ is the best).  Prior app of the week articles are archived here.

“Safety and quality reporting made easy!  The app is designed to meet the reporting requirements set in e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and NORSOK S006 (Achilles). …

“HSEQ Free” is a smart phone app for easy reporting of HSE and quality reports. The app will simplify the work of collecting reports of safe job analysis/job safe analysis (SJA/JSA), nonconformity, observations/incidents, accidents, near misses and improvement suggestions related to safety and quality.  And; with the HSEQ Free, you may also perform and document safety inspections and audits by using the pre-defined checklists and methods implemented in the app.  All for FREE!

This application has settings for six languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Norwegian.

SUMMARY

• Open for everyone – no need for having any database connected to it, hence no log on
• Works in off-line mode
• Pre-defined categories combined with free text
• Add up to three pictures for even better documentation
• Send the report directly to contacts within the organization or outside (define default receivers in the app!)
• Saving in local database for later re-use or sending“¹

Thumbs Up

• cost is free
• colorful and visually appealing
• archives both “in progress” and “completed” reports
• can take and attach photos to these reports  

Thumbs Down

• no instructions or FAQ section
• completed reports can only be emailed to one person
• the three safety audit forms (accident, near miss, prevention) are far to general and brief to be of much value
• audit forms do not include any checklists
• miss spelled words
• their JSA (aka SJA) form does not follow the standard JSA format used in the USA
• this app does not follow accepted occupational safety principles
• we’d never use this app, there are much better safety audit and reporting apps available
