August 18, 2014 No Comments

Below is this week’s “Safety App of the Week“.  Every Monday we publish an article that reviews and rates a new workplace safety app.  Our testing is done on Apple iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3s.  We rate each app from to ♥♥♥♥♥ (♥♥♥♥♥ is the best).  Prior app of the week articles are archived here.

 Chemical Compatibility Database

Official Description

Every day thousands of scientists, engineers and technicians need to determine chemical compatibility for storage, transport and use. Finding the right material compatibility is key to safety and saving money. This app leverages years of research on chemical compatibility for plastics, metals, Elastomers and ceramics. It contains more than 24,528 entries covering 584 chemicals and 42 materials. One of the most comprehensive chemical compatibility databases in the world is now available for your iPhone and iPad.

Our easy to use interface allows you to search in a variety of different ways to get the results you need for your project. Can’t find the chemical or material you’re looking for? Use the included call button to contact our FREE applications assistance for additional help.

Thumbs Up

  • cost is free
  • no registration or sign in required
  • easy to use
  • good instructions
  • quick results
  • works off-line

Thumbs Down

  • 584 different chemicals are in this data base, however only 42 materials are included (we’d have liked to see more)
  • this app only rates the compatibility of a “chemical” with a “material” – it would have been a much more useful app if it also provided information on what “chemicals” are incompatible with other “chemicals”
  • a simple app with a limited data base – we feel it’s an overstatement for the developers to claim the app is one of the  “most comprehensive chemical compatibility databases in the world

Overall Rating

  • iPad/iPhone  – ♥♥♥
  • Android  –
  • Overall – a useful app for anyone who works with or stores chemicals
