Below is this week’s “Safety App of the Week“.  Every Monday we publish an article that reviews and rates a new workplace safety app.  Our testing is done on Apple iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3s.  We rate each app from to ♥♥♥♥♥ (♥♥♥♥♥ is the best).  Prior app of the week articles are archived here.

InspectionPad

Official Description

“eC-InspectionPad is an innovative, simple app that allows you to design, perform and manage inspections, audits and checklists for any industry.  Start an inspection by using one of our public templates, or simply design your own in minutes.   Next, perform your inspection, adding notes and photographs as you go.   Upload completed inspections and manage them online, or simply PDF and email them to your colleagues.

Join the thousands of companies that use eCompliance products daily to save time, money, and to keep their employees safe.1

Thumbs Up

  • cost is free
  • good 13-minute instructional video
  • add photos to inspection reports
  • numerous report templates have already been developed and can be downloaded
  • templates can be modified
  • sign completed reports
  • email completed reports as PDF files
  • completed reports can be archived on developers website and used/viewed by others at your company

Thumbs Down

  • very complex app, it will take you a long time to learn how to use it
  • we would only use one or two of their templates as is (without extensive modifications)
  • developing your own inspection form, or modifying their templates, is very time-consuming
  • we don’t care for the format that they use for their forms – most questions require a narrative answer (not enough yes/no, multiple choice questions)
  • developers are from Canada – none of the inspection templates are compliant with USA OSHA standards
  • navigation is confusing
  • in order to use the better/premium features (e.g. action item tracking, others viewing your completed reports, etc.) you will need to go to their website and set up an account – they are not clear on how much it costs set up an account

Overall Rating

  • iPad – ♥♥♥
  • iPhone – not compatible
  • Android  – not available
  • we greatly prefer the iAuditor app to this one
